Animal behaviour

You have to admit that we humans do some silly things when we are attracted to someone. Although we feel that we are supposed to be more intelligent than other life forms, when it comes to mating rituals, we can see just how animalistic we really are. In fact, there might even be a thing or two we can learn from other species…

Adelie penguins – shower her with gifts

When a man sends her flowers, chocolates or presents, a woman knows he is trying to win her attention, affection and probably much more. Adelie penguins do the same thing. When they want to reinforce their bond, they carefully select a rock and take it to their mate.

Mandarin ducks – get her attention

Any woman who has ever received cat calls, whistles or any ‘compliments’ from men while trying to walk down the street has probably asked herself, ‘what are they really trying to accomplish?’ Perhaps the answer is obvious, but some men never seem to learn that it doesn’t work – at least with human females. It does, however, work for Mandarin ducks. When they see an attractive female, they whistle and try their best to put on a show of some pretty clever events in an attempt to get her attention. If the female duck likes what she sees, she returns the noises, and they mate.

Red-side garter snakes – play the numbers game

One of the reasons internet dating works is that the greater the number of potential mates you are exposed to, the greater your chances are of finding a mate. Red-side garter snakes know this, which is why every mating season they engage in huge orgies in which each female takes hundreds of partners. Ladies, if you prefer, you can take things a little more slowly and first get to know the men you date. In your quest to find love , take whatever approach works for you.
