Halloween is a holiday on October 31st. The celebration of this holiday includes the costume party, trunk or treat game, carving lantern called the jack o’lantern, visit haunted places and playing pranks to scare friends or family. The origin of this tradition is not known exactly. Some might say it was originated from Roman feast called Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds. Some other mentioned Parentalia or the festival of the dead. Among those opinions, the Celtic festival called the Samhain also mentioned as the origin of the Halloween tradition. The word Halloween itself believed as derivation of the term All Hallows Evening from Scottish phrase. An old English phrase also mentioned the All Hallows as a mass day of all saints.

One of the Halloween symbol is the Jack o’lantern, a turnip carved with a face and made as a lantern. This symbolizes the souls being held in the purgatory. The turnip is traditionally used to make the lantern in Ireland or Scotland. The American culture usually made the lantern from a pumpkin. The pumpkin lantern was first recorded in the American culture in 1837 as harvest time symbol, the carved pumpkin become associated with Halloween in the mid 19th century. The Christian Halloween is usually emphasizing the tradition on the All Saint’s Day and some other Protestants celebrate the Reformation day. The moderates use Halloween celebration to share the treat of love sharing opportunity. Since the children will visit neighbour home and church for the treat.

The trunk or treat tracts will give the opportunity to share more than just candy; the children will also have Good News. You can share a candy with a card that will spread the faith through the daily activities. This card can be stamped with your church’s name to invite more people to go to the church.
